A new RCC circular self supporting structure (24m diameter, 15m high) and plan area nearly 450 sqm has been built within a 60 year old brick masonry auditorium building. The new structure is two and half storeyed high but has five different levels of exhibition spaces. The floors are constructed with circular and radial beams and are supported on two wall columns in the centre and two circular columns and one wall column at the periphery. The vertical circulation was achieved by a helicoidal staircase. The foundation system adopted was bored cast-in-situ micro piles. One of the major requirements of construction was that the existing building should remain untouched.
