St. James Church, Delhi

The Florentine outer dome of St. James Church built in 1835, in masonry in lime mortar had developed some cracks. The Indian National Trust for Architectural Restoration (INTACH) was assigned the task to investigate causes for these cracks, recommend remedial measures and implement them.

INTACH had commissioned SERC, Ghaziabad to carry out non destructive tests of the present strength of masonry and lime mortar, carry out an analysis of the dome, and suggest restoration measures. MRC was assigned the task of proof checking of recommendations of SERC and advice INTACH. MRC suggested alternative restoration procedure, which was finally adopted and executed.
